Major online retailer Amazon.com has filed another suit against websites that create false 4 and 5 star reviews for products on their website. Sellers can pay websites such as amazonreviewstar.com and amazonverifiedreviews.com to falsely review their products, creating an unfair advantage with their competitors.
While Amazon doesn’t believe these false reviews encompass a majority of reviews on Amazon, they are committed to transparency in their reviews. The complaint states that: “(a) very small minority of sellers and manufacturers attempt to gain and unfair competitive advantage by creating false, misleading, and inauthentic customer reviews for their products on Amazon.com. While small in number, these reviews threaten to undermine the trust that customers, and the vast majority of sellers manufacturers, place in Amazon, theraby tarnishing Amazon’s brand.” You can view the entire complaint here.
